NYC National Parks Offer Glimpse of History

If you are turning over the idea about vacationing in New York, planning ahead is really the only way to go. There are simply so many different things to see and do that you have to have at the very least a general idea of exactly how you want to pass your time before you can begin. New York is one of the best cities on earth, it did not get that way without a reason and it features a long history that is a huge part of its greatness.

If I were to choose the way to spend my time in New York and which wonderful things about NYC to show to my children, I would opt to introduce them to those things which held the most significance historically. I would wish my children to understand the history of the country whether good or bad and I wish them to someday instill in children of their own the critical nature of such history.

By visiting the national parks initially, I can enjoy the benefits of their cost because free is good nearly any way you slice it, particularly if both you and your children are receiving an education. Ellis Island is a wonderful area to visit, although I believe I’ll show them the statue from afar instead of riding the ferry ride out there. There is simply so many things to do within New York and every second is important, however I wish for them to have a wonderful time just as much as I wish them to gain some wonderful pieces of knowledge. Insights which they can share with their friends at school too (something besides the latest and greatest new DS game that is coming out soon).

Some of the important parks I would love to take my children are: Federal Hall, in which Washington was inaugurated, Grant’s Tomb, Theodore Roosevelt’s Birthplace, and Clinton Castle, that was created in order to keep invaders out. I would also like to bring them to Saint Paul’s Church, though not for spiritual purposes, simply for Religious freedom issues. I think there is an important lesson to be taught there even now, maybe especially today.

I think the lessons that can be taught regarding the past of the nation in New York City are just as important as those lessons which may studied in Washington or Philadelphia. This country has taken many steps on it’s path to democratic independence and we have fallen a couple of times on our way. There would have never been the Salem Witch Trials, the Civil War, or the Civil Rights Movement, but we’ve come so far and still have so far to go. I want my children to learn from our past and to look forward to our future.

I think these are the lessons we could learn from the state parks and these are a lot more important than any lesson we could pick up within toy stores or by tossing a Frisbee in Central Park. I wish for my kids to go to museums as well as toy shops and witness different cultures, I additionally wish for them to take home with a good notion of the history of this important nation.
